WHUT SALUTES DC ARTISTS AND CREATORS WITH “202 DAY”
Washington, D.C. (Monday, January 30, 2023) – Just in time for Black History Month, talented artists and independent creators across the Washington, D.C. area are being showcased in a much-anticipated programming line up on WHUT-TV Channel 32. “202 Day” is a new programming initiative spearheaded by WHUT Director of Content Angie Ange. Launching Thursday February 2ND, “202 Day” celebrates the rich history and stories that often go untold in the District of Columbia.
“202 Day” will feature programs from local creators like “Black Fire,” a documentary about a DC indie record label that created the soundtrack for 1970’s Black political activism; “The Last Battlefront: Quest for the Vote In Washington, D. C.” that chronicles the fight for self governance in DC; and “Do Betta DC,” a five part series on gun violence reduction in DC produced by 96.3 WHUR’s own EZ Street.
The day-long program will also feature historical documentaries on legendary and infamous Washingtonians like “Fat Boy: The Billy Stewart Story,” which explores the life and career of balladeer Billy Stewart, whose music and style influenced R&B music from the 1960’s to today. As well as “Odessa’s Reign” that viewers will also be treated to “Dunbar: The Alchemy of Achievement,” which explores the history of what was widely regarded as the most prominent high school for African Americans during the first half of the 20th century--Dunbar High School.
Additionally, WHUT will present a special edition of its flagship show “ARTICO” that highlights various forms of art across the DC metropolitan area and ‘DMV The Beat,’ a concert series that pays tribute to various genres of music. To add a little fiction in the mix, “12 Hours’” and “Old School Rollers” will have you falling in love with DC culture all over again. “ We are very proud of this daylong programming. ‘202 Day’ is our way of showcasing our local creators and telling important stories that make Washington D.C such a special and powerful place to live, work, and play. This is a celebration and opportunity for WHUT to let the creative community know that we are an outlet for them to get their programs in front of the masses,” said WHUR and WHUT General Manager Sean Plater.
